Splenda Chat

Coming soon... a Splenda chatroom where you discuss the benefits and drawbacks of sucralose consumption with other Splenda users.

On 17 September 2005, we received this note from D. of Mesa, AZ, concerning their use of sucralose.
"I am a 35-year old female who had never experienced joint pain until July 2005. One July morning, I woke up and found that I could hardly roll over, let alone stand up to get to the bathroom.  I laid in my bed for almost an hour trying to get out of bed, crying the whole time. My knees, wrists, feet, ankles, fingers, and toes were so sore I thought I must be really sick. I stayed in bed all day except to get out for necessity. Every time I moved while in bed, I nearly broke into tears. I thought I would get better, but the next day I was worse. I called my mom who had to literally walk me to the bathroom and walk me back to bed. This went on for a few days and, finally, I saw my doctor.

She wanted me to see a rheumatologist, which I did.  After x-rays and a lot of blood work, all the tests came back negative for any type of arthritis, not even a hint of it. My doctors were at a loss. I joined the arthritis foundation message boards and told my story. My thought it was sero-negative rheumatoid arthritis, but one person said I should write a food journal and see what could be different in my diet.

I did. I found I was drinking this new type of tea and eating some other new foods.  All of these contained Splenda. After stopping all Splenda intake, my joint pain went away within a week. I have not touched it since that time.  I feel great.

This went on from July until September 2005. The arthralgia I experienced during this time literally knocked me off my feet and kept me from living a normal life. I never knew the side effects from Splenda could cause me, and maybe others.  I hope this story somehow helps someone else."

Thank you D. for sharing your story with our visitors.

If you have experienced any side effects, whether you are sure it is Splenda or not, be sure to speak with your physician and discuss all possibilities.
