Splenda Chat

Coming soon... a Splenda chatroom where you discuss the benefits and drawbacks of sucralose consumption with other Splenda users.

On 12 December 2005, we received this note from D.B. from Los Angeles, CA, concerning their use of sucralose.
"Hi. I'm from Los Angeles and, about five months ago, I got into the Splenda phase.  I started to only go to coffee shops that used the Splenda brand. I never likes any of the other substitutes, but Splenda did the trick for me. I bought a 200-packet box for my house and told everyone in the house to use it instead of sugar.

I used to get these great feelings of lightheadedness that I liked because it sort of felt like I was "high." Then, after about three months of using the product, I went on the internet and read everything I could find about sugar substitutes. I realized that the lightheadedness was not a good thing at all!  I immediately stopped using all the Splenda products and threw away the box I had bought.

Then, I started to go back to sugar. I don't use a lot, just 1 packet in my daily coffee. I started to get overheated around the face and neck when I switched back. Let me tell you--I have been eating sugared foods and snacks all my life without a single problem.  Now, I get these huge rashes every time I eat something with sugar in it. I ate a banana flambe, which has caramel in it, and WOW! -- my face, neck, and shoulders turned blood red, although I felt absolutely normal. No itching or anything. Chocolate puts little red patches in the same area. Little by little, the problems are going away, but I will never again drink diet sodas or anything that says there is no sugar, but the thing tastes sweet.

I always check the ingredients and make sure there aren't any substitutes. Be careful! All the diet products are switching to Splenda!

Thank you."

Thank you D.B. for sharing your story with our visitors.

If you have experienced any side effects, whether you are sure it is Splenda or not, be sure to speak with your physician and discuss all possibilities.
