Splenda Chat

Coming soon... a Splenda chatroom where you discuss the benefits and drawbacks of sucralose consumption with other Splenda users.

On 31 March 2006, we received this note from N. in Thornhill, Ontario, Canada concerning their use of sucralose.
"I am happy to see a website like this. Now I know that I am not the only one who reacted to Splenda. I wish I could file a report with the FDA, but I'm Canadian, so I'll have to find the Canadian equivalent.

I drink coffee and tea, so I decided to try Splenda because I wanted to avoid the extra calories of sugar. I had a cup of tea with Splenda, and immediately felt tired and drugged.  I thought that I must have just been tired from being a busy mom, so I didn't immediately associate the feeling with Splenda.

A few days later, I decided to have a cup of coffee before I had to drive carpool for my children. After my coffee with Splenda, I felt very tired and drugged. I knew I would have to be alert to drive, so I had another cup of coffee with Splenda. I then became so tired and felt so drugged that I felt like I was going to pass out. I could not stay awake no matter what.  I called my husband at work and told him that he would have to leave work early to get the kids.  Then I went straight to bed. I slept for several hours. This was very scary.

I threw out the Splenda right away. Now I avoid all products that contain it, like yogurt and drinks. "

Thank you N. for sharing your story with our visitors.

If you have experienced any side effects, whether you are sure it is Splenda or not, be sure to speak with your physician and discuss all possibilities.
