Splenda Chat

Coming soon... a Splenda chatroom where you discuss the benefits and drawbacks of sucralose consumption with other Splenda users.

On 6 March 2006, we received this note from L. of Sagamore Hills, OH, concerning their use of sucralose.
"OMG! Thank you guys for posting this website. I thought I was losing my mind...

My story began last year. I was using aspartame in my coffee and then I read this article in a magazine about how aspartame caused all these symptoms which I had, so I decided to stop using it.  I began feeling better.

Until December 2005, when my mother bought me a box of Splenda.  I decided to try it. I like my coffee in the mroning and decided to cut out the French Vanilla creamer I was using, and use Splenda instead. Just one packet per cup. Then the fun began!

In January I had a panic attack, which I've dealt with in the past, but this one was really scary. So, I made a doctor's appointment. I was thinking I was diabetic or it was my thyroid with all these symptoms I was having. I went for bloodwork and EKG.  Everything came back in top shape--thank, God. The did an echocardiogram on me a week later saying I had heart palpitations probably from the anxiety. I do have sinus problems, so the doctor told me to take one Sudafed every day and gave me some Kolopins.

After that, going on three weeks now, my dizziness progressed into bad tension headaches that I never had before. I am driving myself crazy! I also thuoght I had Meneiers disease as I have been irritable, dizzy, fatigued, and headachy. On top ot it, my husband was using Splenda as well and was complaining of headaches.  He thought it was a cold coming on.

I just threw out all of the Splenda. We'll see what happens.  I will keep you all updated. I pray this is what is wrong.  What a horrible feeling.  I know I was using it in my tea a lot -- maybe four or five cups of tea a day. Thank you everyone for sharing your experiences."

On 13 March 2006, we received an update from L.:

"Well, it has been almost a week and I think I am on the road to recovery. The headaches have tapered off. I just have a little head tingling. I will NEVER lay a hand on this poison again.  I cannot believe it is on the market. I am starting to get my energy back. I worked out this morning and cleaned my house. I also don't feel as bloated this past week.

This really scared me thinking I had a tumor or was in the early stages of having a stroke.  I did go for a lot of testing and everything was good. I did see my doctor this past Friday and mentioned the Splenda.  The first thing that came out of his mouth was that it causes headaches. I am not ruling everything out yet, but, believe me, I feel a lot better than I did the past couple of weeks.  I was driving myself nuts!

Thanks for this website.  It really made me stop and think. After stopping the Splenda, I feel a lot better."

Thank you L. for sharing your story with our visitors.

If you have experienced any side effects, whether you are sure it is Splenda or not, be sure to speak with your physician and discuss all possibilities.
