Splenda Chat

Coming soon... a Splenda chatroom where you discuss the benefits and drawbacks of sucralose consumption with other Splenda users.

On 10 April 2006, we received this note from R.R. of San Mateo, CA, concerning their use of sucralose.
"I Googled "Splenda and depression" because I believe there is a link and that Splenda may cause other side effects, too.

I had gotten into the habit of eating sugar-free pudding with sucralose once or twice a day. During this period, I noticed that I was getting very groggy at night and falling asleep earlier than I really wanted to. I'd wake up a short time later with anxiety, palpitations, and hot flashes. I am post-menopausal and have not had hot flashes before, but I am on HRT (cream from a pharmacy), that this would be very unusual at this point.

A few days ago, I ran out of the pudding and didn't buy more right away. The next couple of nights, I slept great.  I had no palpitations.

Last night, I had some microwave kettle corn with Splenda in it right before bedtime. I woke up in the middle of the night feeling really weird and extremely depressed.

At this point in my life, I can tell you with certainty that I know when a food or drug is adversely affecting my body or my state of mind. No one on this site may be able to PROVE that Splenda has had an adverse effect, but I am sure of the link and am throwing away any products that contain it.

I'd also like to say that wherever one stands on the animal rights issue, I think it's absolutely immoral to force-feed animals boatloads of artificial sweeteners, then kill them and throw them away like garbage, because human beings refuse to take responsiblity for what they put into their bodies."

Thank you R.R.. for sharing your story with our visitors.

If you have experienced any side effects, whether you are sure it is Splenda or not, be sure to speak with your physician and discuss all possibilities.
