| On 7 March 2006, we received this note from G.C. of New York, NY, concerning their use of sucralose. |

| "Sucralose stinks and I don't like it!
First of all, I am offended by the anonymous comments dismissing the side effects. ... Anyway, I have always been a very healthy eater. I have never had any gastrointestinal problems. Even if I eat poorly due to some partying, at most I'll have a mild hangover and that's due to the alcohol. Over the past year, I started working out and my calorie requirements skyrocketed. I was hungry all the time, and I didn't want to start snacking on garbage. So, I started supplementing with protein shakes and bars. I had done this some years back, so I assumed it wouldn't be a problem. I was very wrong. I began to experience bloating that became progressively worse as time passed. It felt like my intestines were completely inflated and irritated most of the time. Once the bloating started, it could last up to eight hours. It got to the point where I stopped doing things I enjoyed. I stopped working out. I stopped putting any effort into preparing healthy food. After a few days of eating take-out with no protein shakes, I started feeling fine. I immediately blamed the fiber, so I cut out about 75% of the fiber from my diet and resumed eating healthy, protein shakes an all. The bloating struck back with a vengeance. After talking with my mother, she remembered that a few of her co-workers had similar "symptoms" allegedly due to sucralose. I did some investigating and discovered that my supplements are loaded with sucralose. I am just now going through a bout of bloating because I drank a protein shake before I spoke with my mother. I feel especially annoyed because these products did not have sucralose in them the last time I used them. Although I didn't particularly like aspartame, I was still able to enjoy my life. This awful product was probably stuck into countless products without anyone knowing, and that's not fair. FDA approval doesn't seem very reassuring these days. I'm sure with enough "grease" someone could have arsenic approved. There is no doubt in my mind that this bloating is caused by sucralose. I am only 26-years old and I've been given a clean bill of health by my doctor. I'm in the best shape of my life. I guess now I need to find sucralose-free supplements and, preferably, all-natural ones. Thanks for having such a helpful website. Please keep it up because I've never heard any bad news about sucralose until I saw it here." Thank you G.C. for sharing your story with our visitors. |
