Splenda Chat

Coming soon... a Splenda chatroom where you discuss the benefits and drawbacks of sucralose consumption with other Splenda users.

On 4 May 2006, we received this note from K.M. concerning their use of sucralose.
"I have been using Splenda for five years, along with a strict low-carb diet. The first year, I started to experience anxiety and panic attacks. I thought nothing of it, and attributed it to just getting older.

Thoughout the last four years, I have experienced stomach problems and digestive problems. Not until I learned of other stories like mine would I have linked this to Splenda.

It was written as "safe" in pregnancy magazines so, of course, I used it during my pregnancy with my second son. Not until I was pregnant with my daughter did I really start wondering if Splenda was starting to take a toll on my body. My first son (pre-Splenda) weighed 8 pounds. My second son weighed 7 pounds. My daughter only weighed in at 5 pounds!

Doctors couldn't figure out why my daughter was so small. I had gained a lot weight eating more carbs than ever trying to get this little girl to grow bigger. Nothing helped. Yet I didn't want to believe that Splenda could be the culprit.

Now, after learning the facts, I am sure that it had a lot to do with it. Has anyone ever questioned whether Splenda used over long periods of time could actually prevent your body from absorbing vitamins and minerals that are key to a healthy pregnancy? I urge women who are pregnant and may be thinking Splenda is a safe alternative to please reconsider. If it's not natural, it is by no means "safe." Only if I could have learned about this sooner would I have not potentially hurt my unborn baby."

Thank you K.M. for sharing your story with our visitors.

If you have experienced any side effects, whether you are sure it is Splenda or not, be sure to speak with your physician and discuss all possibilities.
