Splenda Chat

Coming soon... a Splenda chatroom where you discuss the benefits and drawbacks of sucralose consumption with other Splenda users.

On 1 May 2006, we received this note from B.F. of Dallas, Texas, concerning their use of sucralose.
"Three years ago, I got hooked into the craze of using Splenda. I believe this is when the product first came out.  I bought all the diet products that had Splenda in it--ice cream, soda, etc.

One night, I decided to have some espresso with Splenda. As I was drinking my coffee, I started to feel very hot in the face. I thought it was from the hot coffee. My husband then said to me, "who scratched your face?" I said nobody had and asked him why he was asking. He told me my face was red and had welts on it. I ran to the bathroom mirror and saw my face was red and swollen with welts across my cheeks. My fingers and arms were swollen, as well.

At first, I had no idea what this could be. I called my pharmacy and was told to take some benedryl as I was having an allergic reaction to something I had eaten or touched. I then told the pharmacists I had a coffee with Splenda. He said it was probably the Splenda.

I have since stopped using Splenda. It took quite a few hours for the redness and swelling to go away.  It was a most frightening experience."

Thank you B.F. for sharing your story with our visitors.

If you have experienced any side effects, whether you are sure it is Splenda or not, be sure to speak with your physician and discuss all possibilities.
