(We hate asking, trust us!)

On 10 August 2006, we received this note from L.B. concerning their use of sucralose.
"Thank you for your article on Splenda. I have been suffering with a severe headache for about four days now. I rarely get headaches and have been using Splenda consistently in my three cups of coffee a day for about a week now. I have also been eating sugar-free ice cream with Splenda. I have been chewing sugar-free gum with aspartame. This was all in an effort to lose a few pounds. I have taken aspirin or Tylenol and neither helped.

The last time I had a headache this severe was eight years ago while flying to Europe. In order to calm my nerves, I had two small glasses of rum with diet Coke (aspartame) prior to flying. After we landed, I was sick as a dog. I had the worst headache of my life and was physically ill for two days. I believe this had to do with the chemical reaction between mixing the aspartame and alcohol. I tried it again a few months later, and got a headache and neck ache again. This is too much of a coincidence.

I have taken aspartame over the years without any side effects, or at least without headaches. I have also taken Splenda without headaches. The only thing that makes sense is that I cannot mix these chemicals, or I have to watch out the amount ingested.

Anyway, today I have decided to use regular sugar.  This evening my headache seems to have subsided. I am writing this to try and help anyone else who may be experiencing the same headaches. Perhaps if they discontinue their use of these things, or take a break from the artificial sweeteners, they will see an improvement, too."

Thank you L.B. for sharing your story with our visitors.

If you have experienced any side effects, whether you are sure it is Splenda or not, be sure to speak with your physician and discuss all possibilities.
