| On 9 August 2006, we received this note from K.J. from Dayton, Ohio, concerning their use of sucralose. |

| "I have been using Splenda in my coffee and tea since last fall. My mother-in-law bakes with it. I started getting heart palpitations with no explanation. The sensation would come and go, so I really didn't think anything of it.
This summer, I finally went to the doctor and she said that I was having anxiety attacks. She prescribed antidepressants for me. I took them for one week, but could not handle the side effects. Besides, I knew that I was not depressed and I did not have any anxiety in my life. Around the same time, I became sensitive to eating. After every evening meal, I would have an upset stomach and acid indigestion. I thought it was due to my gall bladder giving me problems. I developed IBS, as well. I also experienced gas and constipation. I have pain in back around where my kidneys are, but my kidneys are not inflamed. I had heard that Splenda causes fatigue and informed a colleague of this. I just recently discovered that Splenda may be the culprit behind my heart palpitations and the other symptoms. When I go for a week or two without drinking any tea, my symptoms stop. I cannot believe it took me almost a year to discover that this one product was the cause of all my symptoms. I will not be using Splenda any more. I may just go back to regular sugar." Thank you K.J. for sharing your story with our visitors. |
