On 15 August 2006, we received this note from D.M. concerning their use of sucralose.
"Hi.

I am so glad that I finally found out what was happening to me. I have been experiencing swollen, oozing, and blistering lips. At times, they are a very deep red color. I have no other symptoms. I have no food allergies. I am quite healthy. I have never had herpes.

I only had Splenda occasionally in soda, yogurt, or ice cream. I began my current job in May 2006. I began drinking 1-2 cups of tea a day with 1 packet of Splenda in each cup. In June, the lip swelling and redness began. I didn't mind that until the peeling and oozing started in July. Although I had changed nothing else in my diet, I thought I had developed some sort of food allergy. My doctor was no help.

My research on the web has made me put two-and-two together. I would also mention that when I used Equal frequently, the skin on my face formed small white pimples. I thought Splenda was natural, so I never made any connections between the two sweeteners. After the condition of my lips subsided, I will limit my intake to small infrequent amounts of artificial sweeteners in the future."

Thank you D.M. for sharing your story with our visitors.

If you have experienced any side effects, whether you are sure it is Splenda or not, be sure to speak with your physician and discuss all possibilities.
